Class Details

Welcome to 4th grade and our class website!
We are so excited to have your child in our fourth grade class. Fourth grade is a big transition year for elementary school, there a ton of growth and independence that starts to take place in our kids. My mission is to guide students to a smooth transition as they grow into the best versions of themselves.

Meet the teacher:
My name is Ms. Burgio, I graduated from The College at Brockport State University with a degree in Inclusive Childhood Education, and am now a dual-certified NYS teacher. I knew I wanted to pursue my passion of teaching when my favorite thing to do outside of school was to tutor and spend time with my many nieces and nephews.
Outside of work, I love spending time outdoors with my family. Summer is our favorite season because we spend every day swimming, hiking, golfing, and camping. Our happy place is Wellesley Island on the St. Lawrence River.
I have found my passion in shaping students to be the best they can be, constantly evolving and progressing toward what God intended for us to be.

Math

What is our main focus in 4th grade?

In Grade 4, instructional time primarily focuses on three critical areas: (1) developing understanding and fluency with multi-digit multiplication, and developing understanding of dividing to find quotients involving multi-digit dividends; (2) developing an understanding of fraction equivalence, addition and subtraction of fractions with like denominators, and multiplication of fractions by whole numbers; (3) understanding that geometric figures can be analyzed and classified based on their properties, such as having parallel sides, perpendicular sides, particular angle measures, and symmetry.

You can read more about the 4th grade mathematics standards by reading the following document. Grade 4 information begins on page 25.

Religion

Our Religion program is called “Word of Life 4 School Edition.”
My goal in religion is to foster a true faith in God, our Lord Jesus Christ. This includes teachings of how to live by faith, letting the light of God shine through us to others. We should not only be spreading the Word of God to others using words, but by using actions in the way we live.

Homework Policy

Why I assign homework:
I believe homework is important because it is a valuable aid in helping students make the most of their experience in school.  I give homework because it is useful in reinforcing what has been learned in class, prepares students for upcoming lessons, helps me to identify where students need additional instruction, teaches responsibility, and helps students develop positive study habits.

When homework will be assigned:
Every Monday a homework packet for the week will come home, and it is due the following Monday, one week later. I do accept late submissions until Friday (4 days later) but 10% is taken off of homework turned in between Monday (the due date) and Friday (the last day I will accept it late.)

Student’s homework responsibilities:
I expect student’s to do their best job on their homework.  I expect homework to be completed neatly.  I expect students to do the work on their own and only ask for help after they have given their best effort.  I expect that all assignments will be turned in on time.
